News Channel 3-12 Multimedia:

Web Page: Santa Barbara International Film Festival

I built this page in January of 2023 to create a landing area dedicated to News Channel 3-12's coverage of the 38th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

During this festival, I oversaw all web/app content from reporters and contributing producers, including myself.

Featured Instagram post

Posted on June. 6, 2023, I edited this reel on Adobe Premiere Pro and took raw footage from the source and clipped together different pieces of our on-air coverage.

This post has reached over 200,000 views and grew our followers by thousands. Another reel I posted in July reached over 300,000 views and also grew our followers from 18.5K to nearly 20K within a month.

Web Page: Voter Guide

I've created two voter guide pages now, this being the second. In addition to creating these pages per election, I search for and gather each candidate's contact information, send out a Google survey I created in, compile responses from each candidate into individual web stories and post them all at once to this page. In addition, I curate all reporters' web stories on the elections to fit this page, and I receive their raw interviews and re-work them for YouTube and the web/app.

Cal Poly Multimedia:

Journalism Senior Project

During a pandemic-ridden, virtual senior year, the options within my journalism senior project class were limited -- we only had the option to create two full MMJ profile stories within the 10-week-long course. My partner and I, for our second project, decided to make the best of these circumstances by choosing a story that addresses the long-standing issues of diversity and inclusion at Cal Poly, which we angled through profiling the new CAFES Associate Dean of Student Success, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Linked in the button below you will find the contents of our second feature story for our senior project: the profile of Dr. Catherine Kleier.

MMJ Website

I created and coded the website attached below, “Tatted,” throughout the course of the most intensive Journalism class offered at Cal Poly: Advanced Digital Journalism (JOUR 410). This class is “designed to arm journalism students with cutting-edge skills in web-based media communication. In this class, students learn coding skills including languages like HTML, Javascript and CSS in order to create their own websites on a topic of their choice.”

I decided to theme my website “tattoos” with the mission of producing creative and unique feature stories for my web page. This website displays my skills in multimedia journalism such as photography, videography, infographic design and coding. Everything you see on the website I created from scratch -- even the tattoo gun logo which I created in Adobe Illustrator, and the gif that plays at the top of the page which I created using Adobe Premier and Illustrator. My favorite section of the site is the video portion displayed about half way down the page which embeds a not-so-traditional broadcast style video package humorously presenting a juxtaposition in opinions on tattoos from my dad and a local tattoo artist.

Graphic Design Projects

I began developing my graphic design skills in the fall of 2019 when I took Visual Communication for the Mass Media (JOUR 390), and since then I've only furthered my skills with the Adobe suite.

Attached below is a page that displays some of my best work with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign from the course.

Ethnic Studies Senior Project

Within the final class to complete my Ethnic Studies minor, my group and I created a "DIY zine" publication consisting of key concepts and ideas from the course Critical Race Theory (ES 380). For this senior project, we were instructed to show the importance of CRT in addressing questions of race, racism and power meanwhile providing other Cal Poly students a platform from which to educate themselves and others on how to strive "to maintain an environment that is socially just, equitable, respectful and inclusive of all people."

My roles for this group project included creating, formatting and producing the design for the entire Zine using Adobe InDesign. I pulled licensed images from the web, I created the format free-hand, and I wrote the contents for pages 45-47.

Roots Catalogue

I created this fall catalogue during my role as the Director of Public Relations for a local art gallery, Roots, in the fall of 2020. At the time, Roots was a start up art gallery in Los Osos, CA -- and I created this catalogue for their premiere art show featuring two local artists.

For this catalogue, I photographed the art pieces, interviewed and edited the artists' stories, designed and formatted the art collections using Adobe Illustrator, and I produced the catalogue with attention to file sizing for export to print and web. Click on the button below to view all 11 pages of the full catalogue!

Europe Backpacking Blog

In the summer of 2021, two of my college friends and I decided to take a celebratory backpacking trip through Europe to celebrate our college graduations. In 35 days, the three of us traveled through five countries and visited more than 15 cities –– some of my favorites including Siena, Tuscany and Split, Croatia.

Attached below is a link to the Instagram account I created for our trip where I blogged the highlights from each country, along with photos and videos for friends and family to virtually travel along with us. I created this account because I figured that since I want to work as a traveling writer or other MMJ position, I might as well get some more practice at it while engaging on such a long and exciting journey!
